About the Procedure

What Is Blepharoplasty?

Your eyes can look permanently tired, hollow, or aged not because of how you feel — but because of structural changes in eyelid anatomy that no sleep, eye cream, or concealer can address. Blepharoplasty corrects exactly that: excess skin on the upper lid, fat herniation creating bags beneath the eye, or both.

Blepharoplasty is the surgical correction of excess skin, muscle, and fat around the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both. Upper blepharoplasty removes redundant skin and sometimes a strip of orbicularis muscle that causes the heavy, hooded appearance. Lower blepharoplasty addresses fat herniation — the pouches that create visible under-eye bags — and, when needed, excess lower lid skin.

For Indian patients, the surgery is performed with careful attention to preserving ethnic eyelid anatomy. The epicanthal fold, natural crease position, and characteristic fat distribution of Fitzpatrick IV–V skin types are all respected throughout the procedure. Done correctly, you should look like a well-rested, more alert version of yourself — not a different person.

The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia with sedation in most cases, allowing you to return home the same day. General anaesthesia is used for combined or more complex procedures. Most patients return to desk work within 7–10 days and see their final result at 3 months. To understand Dr. Rahul Jain's surgical background and credentials, visit his profile.

Surgical Approach

Upper and Lower Blepharoplasty at House of Aetheria

Local anaesthesia with sedation  ·  Day-care procedure

Upper blepharoplasty uses an incision placed precisely within the natural eyelid crease. Redundant skin and, where necessary, a strip of orbicularis muscle are removed. Fat is repositioned rather than simply excised, to avoid a hollowed post-operative appearance. The crease position and epicanthal fold are preserved to maintain ethnic identity. Sutures sit within the crease line and become virtually invisible once healed.

Lower blepharoplasty uses either a transconjunctival approach (incision inside the eyelid, no external scar — preferred for patients with fat herniation and minimal skin excess) or a subciliary approach (incision just below the lash line, for cases where lower lid skin also needs to be addressed). Fat is repositioned, not simply removed — redistributing it to fill the tear trough and eliminate the double-contour deformity that creates a permanently tired appearance.

Non-surgical options — tear trough fillers, PRP, and laser resurfacing — are effective for early-stage hollowing and fine lines, and we offer all of these at House of Aetheria. However, they cannot correct moderate-to-significant excess skin or structural fat herniation. When the concern is structural, surgery delivers results that no injectable or energy-based treatment can replicate.

Managing Expectations

What Blepharoplasty Can and Cannot Do

Blepharoplasty

  • Remove excess upper eyelid skin causing hooding or heaviness
  • Reduce prominent under-eye bags caused by fat herniation
  • Improve peripheral vision when upper lid skin overhangs the visual field
  • Restore a rested, alert appearance without a dramatic change to face shape
  • Correct asymmetry between the two upper or lower lids
  • Address crepey lower lid skin that does not respond to laser or peels
  • Treat sunken or hollow eyes when combined with fat redistribution

Blepharoplasty

  • Eliminate crow's feet or forehead lines Anti-wrinkle injections or laser resurfacing addresses these
  • Lift a drooping brow A non-surgical face lift or brow lift is the correct approach for brow ptosis
  • Remove dark circles caused by pigmentation Pigment-based dark circles require laser toning or chemical peels, not surgery
  • Change the size or fundamental shape of your eye Blepharoplasty preserves, not alters, your natural eye shape
  • Stop the ageing process entirely Results last 7–10 years; maintenance treatments extend outcomes
Candidacy

Are You a Candidate for Blepharoplasty?

Hooded Upper Eyelids Excess skin resting on or past the lash line, creating a heavy or tired appearance
Under-Eye Bags or Puffiness Fat herniation creating visible bags that make you look perpetually tired or older

Visual Field Obstruction Upper lid skin overhanging the visual field, restricting peripheral vision
Asymmetric Eyelids Noticeable difference in skin, crease position, or fat distribution between the two lids
Aged Appearance Despite Rest Looking permanently fatigued or older than you feel, regardless of sleep or lifestyle
Sunken or Hollow Eyes Recessed eyes with tear trough deformity and fat pad prominence creating a double contour
Desire for Subtle Rejuvenation Seeking natural, rested results that preserve your ethnic identity and eye shape

Frequently Asked Questions — Blepharoplasty & Eyelid Surgery in Gurgaon

What is the cost of blepharoplasty in Gurgaon?

Blepharoplasty at House of Aetheria ranges from ₹60,000–₹1,50,000. Upper eyelid surgery alone starts from ₹60,000. Lower eyelid surgery starts from ₹70,000. Combined upper and lower blepharoplasty (double blepharoplasty) ranges from ₹1,00,000–₹1,50,000. The eyelid operation cost depends on the procedure type, complexity, and whether sedation or general anaesthesia is used. A personalised quote is provided after consultation with Dr. Rahul Jain.

How long do blepharoplasty results last?

Upper blepharoplasty results typically last 7–10 years, sometimes longer depending on genetics and skin quality. Lower blepharoplasty results tend to be longer lasting because repositioned or removed fat pads rarely recur. Ongoing sun protection and skin care help maintain results over time.

Is blepharoplasty painful?

The procedure itself is painless as it is performed under local anaesthesia with sedation. Post-operatively, patients typically experience mild soreness and tightness around the eyes for 2–3 days, managed well with prescribed oral pain relief. Most patients are surprised by how manageable the recovery is.

Will there be visible scars after blepharoplasty?

Upper eyelid scars are placed within the natural eyelid crease and become virtually invisible once healed. Lower transconjunctival scars are entirely inside the eyelid — no external scar at all. Subciliary scars (below the lash line) fade significantly within 3–6 months. In Indian skin (Fitzpatrick IV–V), scars require sun protection during healing to prevent hyperpigmentation.

Can men get blepharoplasty?

Yes. Blepharoplasty is one of the most commonly performed facial surgical procedures in men. Male blepharoplasty uses the same technique but is tailored to preserve masculine eyelid structure — maintaining a natural, defined crease without an overly arched appearance. Heavy upper lids and under-eye bags affect men and women equally as ageing progresses.

Can I combine blepharoplasty with other procedures?

Yes. Blepharoplasty is frequently combined with a non-surgical face lift, fat grafting to the midface, or non-surgical treatments like anti-wrinkle injections for crow's feet. At House of Aetheria, we assess the entire periorbital region rather than treating eyelids in isolation. Combined procedures are planned in a single session where appropriate.

Can blepharoplasty fix sunken or hollow eyes?

It depends on the cause. Sunken or hollow eyes caused by volume loss in the tear trough are often treated with dermal fillers or fat grafting rather than surgery alone. However, when sunken eyes are accompanied by prominent fat pads or a double-contour deformity, a lower blepharoplasty — combined with fat redistribution — can provide significant improvement. Sunken eyes treatment is assessed individually at consultation, and we will recommend the most appropriate option for your specific anatomy.

What is the difference between upper and lower blepharoplasty?

Upper blepharoplasty addresses excess skin on the upper eyelid causing hooding or heaviness — it is also a functional procedure when skin restricts peripheral vision. Lower blepharoplasty addresses fat herniation creating baggy lower lids, excess lower lid skin, or a combination of both. Double blepharoplasty refers to treating both upper and lower lids in a single session, which approximately 60% of our patients choose for a more comprehensive result.
