Sagging facial skin and jawline laxity are structural changes — and they require a structural response. HIFU at House of Aetheria delivers focused ultrasound energy directly to the SMAS, the same fascial layer addressed in surgical face lifting, stimulating genuine collagen contraction and neogenesis deep beneath the skin surface. No incisions, no downtime, no compromise on clinical depth.

What Is HIFU?

HIFU — High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound — is a non-invasive treatment that delivers precise thermal energy to specific depths within the skin and underlying soft tissue. Unlike surface-level skin treatments, HIFU bypasses the epidermis entirely and deposits focused energy at 1.5 mm (dermis), 3.0 mm (deep dermis) and 4.5 mm (SMAS) depths. At each focal point, a tiny thermal coagulation zone is created, triggering the body's natural wound-healing and collagen-regeneration response.

The SMAS — Superficial Musculoaponeurotic System — is the fibromuscular layer responsible for structural support of the face. It is the same layer that surgeons reposition during a surgical facelift. HIFU is the only non-surgical technology clinically proven to reach and stimulate this layer, which is why it produces lifting results that purely superficial treatments cannot replicate.

Results from HIFU are not immediate — they build progressively over 3 to 6 months as collagen remodelling occurs. Patients typically notice tighter, lifted contours with improved jawline definition, reduced nasolabial depth and firmer neck and brow architecture. The treatment is performed in a single session for most indications, with results lasting 12 to 18 months.

The Technology Behind Your Results

HIFU — Dual-Frequency Focused Ultrasound

3 MHz + 7 MHz transducers  ·  SMAS-layer targeting  ·  1.5 / 3.0 / 4.5 mm depth

The HIFU system at House of Aetheria operates on two complementary frequencies: 3 MHz for deeper tissue penetration targeting the SMAS and deep dermis, and 7 MHz for superficial dermal work on areas with thinner skin such as the periorbital and décolletage zones. This dual-frequency capability allows Dr. Bedi to address structural laxity and superficial skin quality within the same session — adapting to the anatomy of each facial zone.

Three transducer depths are available: 1.5 mm targets the superficial dermis for skin texture and fine line improvement, 3.0 mm works within the deep reticular dermis for collagen remodelling and skin tightening, and 4.5 mm reaches the SMAS layer for structural lifting. For most patients, a full face and neck protocol combines all three depths across the relevant anatomical zones.

Each pass of the transducer deposits a line of thermal coagulation points spaced at precise intervals. The thermal injury at each focus point is contained — surrounding tissue is not heated. As the coagulation zones heal, they generate new collagen and elastin and cause existing collagen fibres to contract, producing measurable tissue lift and skin tightening over the following months.

Clinical Indications — What HIFU Treats
Sagging Facial Skin Overall facial laxity and skin ptosis — particularly cheeks, midface and lower face
Jowl Laxity SMAS-depth lifting restores the mandibular contour and reduces jowling at the jawline
Neck Laxity Tightens platysmal bands and neck skin for a cleaner cervicomental angle
Brow Ptosis Lifting the brow arch restores periorbital openness and a more rested, youthful appearance
Double Chin Submental HIFU tightens skin and stimulates fat reduction in the chin and neck zone
Nasolabial Folds Midface SMAS lifting reduces the depth of nasolabial and marionette lines indirectly
Body Tightening Arms, abdomen, inner thighs and knees respond well to deeper HIFU transducer protocols
Jawline Definition Combined face and neck HIFU sharpens the jawline contour for improved facial structure

Conditions Treated with HIFU

  • Facial skin laxity — generalised sagging of the cheeks, midface and lower face driven by volume loss and reduced collagen architecture.
  • Jowls and jawline blurring — loss of mandibular definition due to SMAS ptosis and subcutaneous tissue descent.
  • Neck laxity and platysmal banding — loose skin and vertical neck bands that create an aged cervicomental profile.
  • Brow drooping — descent of the lateral brow that causes a tired or heavy-lidded appearance.
  • Submental fat and double chin — in combination with skin tightening at the submental zone.
  • Nasolabial and marionette lines — as a consequence of improved midface support from SMAS stimulation.
  • Body skin laxity — arms, abdomen, inner thighs and knees where gravitational skin loosening has occurred.

How Many Sessions Are Needed?

HIFU differs from most other aesthetic treatments in that a single session is frequently sufficient to produce meaningful results:

  • Mild to moderate facial laxity: 1 session. Results build over 3 to 6 months and typically last 12 to 18 months.
  • More advanced laxity: A second session at 6 months may be recommended to enhance and extend the outcome.
  • Maintenance: An annual repeat session sustains the lifting effect as natural ageing continues.
  • Body zones: 1 to 2 sessions depending on the degree of laxity and the area being treated.

Your specialist will assess your facial anatomy, degree of laxity and tissue quality at consultation to establish an accurate treatment expectation and recommend the appropriate protocol for your goals.

Before, During and After Your Treatment

Preparation

  • No special skin preparation is required before HIFU.
  • Remove all makeup before your appointment. We will apply ultrasound gel during the procedure.
  • Inform your specialist if you have any metal implants, facial fillers or implants in the treatment area.
  • Avoid anti-inflammatory medications (ibuprofen, aspirin) for 3 days before if comfortable to do so, as inflammation is part of the healing response HIFU relies on.

During the procedure

Ultrasound gel is applied to the treatment area. The HIFU transducer is passed across the skin in systematic anatomical zones, delivering focused energy at the prescribed depths. You will feel a deep warmth or mild heating sensation as the ultrasound focuses beneath the skin — this is normal and indicates the energy is reaching the target tissue. A full face and neck session typically takes 60 to 90 minutes. Numbing cream is available if preferred.

After treatment

  • Mild redness and slight swelling may be present for 2 to 4 hours — both resolve without any intervention.
  • Tenderness to touch in the treated area is normal for 1 to 2 days.
  • No downtime — you may return to all activities, including work and social engagements, immediately.
  • Apply SPF 50+ daily. Avoid saunas and intense heat treatments for 48 hours.
  • Results build progressively over 3 to 6 months. A follow-up review at 3 months is recommended.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many HIFU sessions are needed for face lifting?

A single HIFU session is often sufficient for meaningful lifting and tightening. Results build progressively over 3 to 6 months as collagen remodelling occurs beneath the skin surface. An annual repeat session maintains the outcome. Patients with more advanced laxity may benefit from a second session at 6 months.

What is the cost of HIFU treatment in Gurgaon?

HIFU at House of Aetheria ranges from ₹12,000 to ₹45,000 per session. The cost depends on the number of zones treated — full face, neck, brow, and body areas each have specific protocols. Full face and neck packages are available and priced at your consultation.

Is HIFU painful?

HIFU produces a mild to moderate deep heating sensation as ultrasound energy is focused at the SMAS layer. Most patients describe it as noticeable but well-tolerated. Topical numbing cream is available if you prefer. The sensation lasts only during the pass of the transducer and subsides immediately after.

What is the downtime after HIFU?

HIFU requires no downtime. You may experience mild redness, slight swelling or tenderness for 2 to 4 hours after the session, all of which resolve on their own. You can return to all social and professional activities immediately — including the same day as your treatment.

How long do HIFU results last?

HIFU results typically last 12 to 18 months. The longevity of results depends on skin condition, age, lifestyle factors and sun protection habits. A maintenance session once a year is recommended to sustain the lifting effect as the natural ageing process continues.
